prize winning device could slash NHS costs

Medical innovation company FUNNELLY ENOUGH have picked up the NHS East of England Innovative Health and Social Care Technology Award for their user friendly and hygienic urine collection device, known as the PEEZY. "The device makes a huge contribution to infection control and workplace hygiene, reducing contamination and the risk of MRSA and other infections in medical settings for patients and staff," says director Giovanna Forte. "By eliminating the often contaminated ‘first burst’ of urine, Peezy also reduces the need for costly retests."

The NHS Centre for Evidence Based Purchasing has confirmed that the introduction of the device can lead to savings of roughly £2 per patient. As more than fifty million urine samples are taken from women each year, widespread use of the device could release up to £80million of the annual NHS budget for other purposes. Patient feedback to one early adopter, the Great Yarmouth Practice-Based Commissioning Consortium, suggests a high leel of patient satisfaction with the device. The Innovatory assisted Funnelly Enough in its successful search for private equity investment.

inter faith hospital gown

The Inter-Faith Gown is a new hospital gown for patients who would like to be more modestly clothed. It has been developed by Interweave textiles of West Yorkshire. The gown preserves the modesty of patients whose culture or religion requires head garments and trousers in additional to mainstream hospital wear. The elements can be mixed-and-matched to enable the patient to obtain the required degree of coverage.

The Linen Services Manager at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust identified a need for the gown and developed the design.
